LAHC Certified as Organization to Provide President Volunteer Service Award
The LAHC was recently certified by the Obama Administration to provide volunteers with service awards for their commitment to helping greater society and for the service and volunteer hours provided within their community. Upon the completion of a certain amount of service hours, volunteers receive a personalized certificate along with a congratulatory note signed by President Barrack Obama. Congratulations to Hussein Berry on Lewis Hine Award by NCLC
The Lebanese American Heritage Club wishes to extend sincere congratulations to Hussein Berry, community leader, activist and Trustee of the Dearborn Public School Board of Education on being a recipient of the National Child Labor Committee (NCLC) Lewis Hine Awards for Service to Children and Youth. Berry will be honored at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York City on January 30. According to the NCLC, the award was named for the acclaimed NCLC photographer who documented early-20th century exploitation of children. The Lewis Hine Awards honor individuals who, either as professionals or volunteers, give of themselves or go the extra mile for the well-being of young people. "Hussein Berry is an extraordinary leader and role model for our youth,” states LAHC President Suehaila Amen. "His commitment to providing quality programs and opportunities for young people to take part in and his dedication to the community and education has placed Hussein in the hearts of many in the community. He truly deserves this prestigious honor and we continue to support his great work for our children.” "Hussein Berry, Co-Founder/President, Dearborn Youth Football Association, www.dyfa.org/index , will be honored for his decade-long work as a mentor and advocate in his community on behalf of Dearborn youth. Believing that education is a key to providing the area's youth with a meaningful future, the Dearborn Youth Football Association is a way to prepare players to qualify for college scholarships,” states the NCLC press statement.

The Arab Student Union to Host Michigan Arab Orchestra’s Sahrah Helweh”
On January 27 at 7pm, the ASU will host the Michigan Arab Orchestra’s "Sahrah Helweh" at the Wayne State University Community Arts Auditorium in Detroit. The event will feature extraordinary selections of Middle Eastern music and will be directed by Michael Ibrahim. The show will have performances by renowned vocalists Usama Baalbaki and Nidal Ibourk.
