The Dearborn Star Soccer Team (D.S.S.T.) was first
established in 1982, and served as the foundation for the growth of the
Lebanese American Heritage Club. Today the team still constitutes one of
the core activities of the L.A.H.C. The main mission of the team, as
defined by its founders, is to entertain and provide our youth with an
activity that encourages teamwork, fellowship and integrity. When the team first joined the Detroit Soccer League, it included only 13 players. In 1984, the number of players increased to 18, with many of the new players having freshly arrived from Lebanon. During the 1992-93 season, there were 24 players. The team has won several Detroit and Michigan-Ontario soccer league championships, as well as the Arabic Teams Championship, which include Arab American teams from around the United States. The D.S.S.T. has become one of the major competitors in the Michigan soccer arena. The team won the Michigan State championship in 1996. Also, in 1996 D.S.S.T. visited Lebanon and played 5 national Lebanese teams, including AN-NEJMEH. Earlier, in 1989, the Dearborn Star Soccer Team joined the Michigan-Ontario Soccer League, which is currently the major soccer institution at the state level. The Dearborn Stars Soccer Team hopes to continue along its successful path, thanks to the efforts of its managers and players, the support of Club members, and the entire community. |
