Suehaila Amen is currently employed as an educator in the Dearborn Public School System. Ms. Amen has worked for the Dearborn Public Schools for ten years. Her efforts and strength in educating and encouraging our youth has contributed to her character, helping her to co-establish and actively participate in programs and be part of the cause which aides and cultivates our youth. She is the Community Affairs Director for Forum and Link Journal, an Arab American publication and the CEO of Suehaila Amen LLC, a consulting and event planning company. Formerly employed as the Community and Cultural Outreach Coordinator for Wal-Mart Super Center in Dearborn, Michigan, she worked on behalf of Wal-Mart Dearborn to establish, enhance and maintain strong, working relationships with local ethnic communities. She also served as a Professional Development Coordinator, creating and facilitating trainings for Wal-Mart Super Center staff on the subjects of cultural sensitivity, professionalism and respect. Affiliated with various Arab-American and Islamic associations on local, regional and national levels, she serves as the Vice President for the Lebanese American Heritage Club (LAHC); chairing the Communications and Public Relations Committee, and co-chairing and coordinating the LAHC Arab American Scholarship Foundation Annual Gala. She is a Founding Board member of AWARE (Arab Women Advocating for Resources and Empowerment), and holds executive board member positions with the Congress of Arab American Organizations (CAAO) and formerly with ADC-Michigan. Volunteering her services for over 15 years, she focuses on issues that concern the Arab-American youth and society, coordinating workshops and facilitating meetings and forums on various subjects affecting the Arab American community. She has had the opportunity to interact with a number of local, national and international media outlets, including ART, MBN, CNN, ABC and NBC and continues to work closely with local area media outlets to ensure fair and unbiased coverage of Arab-Americans in the media. She has participated in numerous documentaries and news stories on Arab and Muslim Americans and has been featured in newsprint media for her activism. |
